Cision Media Database’s Top Blog and Bloggers List Exceeds 10,000 Mark

Cision Maintains Wide Lead in Online Media Research and Intelligence

CHICAGO, IL, September 29, 2009 – Cision, the leading provider of media research, distribution, monitoring and analysis services to the public relations industry and other communication professionals, announced that its Cision Media Database (formerly Bacon’s) now lists background and contact information on more than 10,000 top blogs and bloggers—more than twice as many contacts as its nearest competitors.

Cision has been compiling research data on influential blogs for more than three years and integrating it into its industry-leading media research database, which provides more than a million detailed profiles on media outlets, editors, journalists, freelancers, bloggers and social media outlets.

“Many blogs are now as influential and well read as any other mainstream sources of news and information, and public relations practitioners must treat them with the same professional code of conduct they apply to their dealings with traditional print and broadcast journalists,” said Heidi Sullivan, Vice President of Research for Cision. “Integrated into the CisionPoint online services platform, the Cision Media Database gives PR professionals the most comprehensive and accurate information by far to help them provide the most useful information to bloggers.”

Sullivan added that best PR practices in communicating with bloggers are more important than ever, as bloggers increasingly must contend with the same kind of outreach that mainstream media professionals have always dealt with. “Best practice means following proven common-sense golden rules such as knowing bloggers’ work and providing as much intelligent, relevant and concrete assistance to them as possible, without bothering them or wasting their time with irrelevant pitches,” she said.

Noting the recent news made by “Mom Bloggers” who proposed a one-week break from dealing with marketing professionals to underscore their desire for intelligent and constructive communication, Sullivan said Cision includes best-practice advice on all blogger profiles in its database. She added that Cision’s “Ten Tips on Reaching Out to Mom Blogs” is focused on best blog outreach practices (download: http://us.cision.com/2009momblog/).
