It’s time for my weekly round-up of the best blog posts I have seen around the web this past week! Here’s the top five in no particular order…

The 7 words you should never use in an email subject line via PR Daily

Are you sending emails after lunch?

Bad idea, says a new study.

The best time to send an email—if you want someone to, you know, open and read it—is around 6 a.m., according to research from Baydin, which makes the email plugin Boomerang.

The company analyzed its database of more than 5 million messages and came up with some useful insights about email communication, among them the words that you should—and should not—include in your subject lines.

Facebook Timeline Coming for Business via Spin Sucks

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I have a secret. Nothing I write today is going to outdo Shonali Burke’s Valentine’s Day blog post.

So please go over there, get it out of the way, and come back.

It’s OK. I’ll wait.

Now, wasn’t it worth it? I, for one, am pleased to finally see the movie star’s talents coming through. Enough of this PR stuff. Let her do what she was born to do!

And on to our regularly scheduled program.

I have good news!

Rumor has it Facebook is rolling out its timeline feature to business pages this month.

Pinterest is Simple, But Strategy is Still Required via PRNewser

As people continue to wrap their brains around Pinterest, writers are offering up some easy explanations for what it is.

“Simply put, Pinterest is a visually dazzling bulletin board, enabling users to bookmark and curate images or virtually fold over pages of their favorite catalogs,” says TIMEmagazine.

But after some weeks of seeming nonstop coverage of the site, we’re now moving into the phase where people are putting more thought into how it can be used as more than just a hobby. Especially now that we have word that it’s the “fastest growing site ever” and its driving crazy amounts of retail traffic.

This can quickly make things more complicated.

L-O-V-E for Social Business on Valentine’s Day via Waxing UnLyrical

So… looking through this blog, I realized that this is the fourth Valentine’s Day Waxing UnLyrical’s been around … can I get a W00t?! W00t!!!

Last year, I wrote about injecting the Valentine’s Day spirit into social media, and I really didn’t want to write a hackneyed version of what I’m sure will be several such posts out today.

So today, I decided to say “thank you” to social businesses; businesses that understand and use social media wisely, to listen to their customers, to improve their products and services, thus creating fans for life.

Single Men and Britney Spears Rule on Google+ [Infographic] via Marketing Pilgrim

If you’re on Google+, you probably don’t need an infographic to tell you that the site is populated mostly by men. You don’t need one, but I have one for you anyway because infographics rule, along with single men.

According to Website-Monitoring.com, men make up 61% of Google+, 32% are women and 1% are other. Other? Strange and wonderous things come to mind, but it’s probably brands or Muppets.

And a recap of what happened on Cision Blog:

4 Tips on Dating in PR

At the end of the day, our relationships are what matter, both professionally and personally. And when it comes to building a professional relationship with a journalist or blogger, it’s not all that different from dating. The first impression can be a little awkward, like writing a lead paragraph, but if you manage the process well, you can build a relationship that is long-lasting.

It all starts with building a good foundation. Have you ever felt like a relationship was moving too fast? Well, you’re just as capable of encountering that pitfall when it comes to pitching. Don’t jump right into commitment on Day One. Take the time to have a few dates, get to know each other and build some trust.

Top Media Outlets Discuss Pinterest Strategy

It’s no secret that Pinterest is popular. Back in October, I wrote an article for CisionNavigator which discussed the site with several players in the PR arena.

As the online pinboard has continued to explode and generate interest, we wanted to follow-up with some comments from the news media.
