If campaigns are using social monitoring properly, a hashtag calls out a potential donor, supporter or volunteer. Brands should be doing the same, translating commenters into leads, advocates or consumers.
Over the last seven days #FeelTheBern has been used more than 525,000 times. That’s 75,000 times a day, or 3,125 an hour.
Why hashtags matter
When someone uses a campaign hashtag it is tantamount to an endorsement. It is also easy for supporters to see that support and it makes them easy to track and follow up with. These endorsements matter, as each one indicates vocal support and engagement. Voter engagement before a vote indicates intention to vote and Nevada’s Democratic Primary is just days away.
In social poll release on Wednesday, February 10, Cision found that Senator Bernie Sanders carries the state with 59 percent share of voice and at that time we projected him to win the primary.
One reason his social share of voice data beats pollster data is so many of his supporters are engaging online. It could be very well that many Clinton supporters are in Nevada, but many are silent.
Below we’ve listed the top campaign hashtags by how often they are used every day. This is based off of monitoring conducted between Wednesday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 10.
For a candidate to succeed, they have to respond to these followers and bring them into the movement. This is no different than how a brand should respond to people engaging with them. The goal is to convert them from a follower to a customer or a follower to a promoter. Engage with your followers, monitor how they use your campaign hashtags and stimulate activity by being active on social media yourself.
