On Feb 15, 2015, AtrocityWatch Hackathon for Humanity saw some really cool solutions, which focused on using big data, and mobile technologies to build a Geo-Fencing application. The aim was to help spot Atrocities before they occur by analyzing social media and raising awareness during the time of occurrence. Together with Cloudera Cares, Amazon AWS, O’Reilly Media and Intel, we at Viralheat supported this hackathon by providing our patented Sentiment API.
Out of several great ideas, Igor Barinov’s solution was announced as the “winner”. He used our sentiment analysis API and came up with a solution, which translates and transmits audio listening from an android phone to a remote computer or tablet. The sentiment analysis grades it and sends an alert if anything dangerous occurs in a populated area (such as an atrocity).

The 1st and 2nd place teams both won exhibitor passes at Strata Hadoop World in Santa Clara, along with the opportunity to present their solution at Intel booth.
