The more people who view your press release, the more website traffic you’ll get. But how do you attract readers when there’s so much vying for their time online?

Social media is a great place to start. But simply pasting the title of your press release probably won’t create excitement. Instead, try these easy tips to spread your news far and wide.

1. Create Share-Worthy Updates

Don’t make your audience work to share your release; do it for them. Craft several tweets or updates with highlights from your release and schedule them in the week following the publication of your press release. These highlights could be statistics from the release, a quote or other tidbits that are condensed, easy to share and interesting.

2. Get By With a Little Help

If you have employees, rabid fans or others who would do anything to help your brand succeed, ask them to share your news on social. Using Tip #1, craft pre-written updates they can copy and paste into their social accounts. Or better yet, use Click to Tweet to give them a URL they can simply click to — wait for it — tweet!

3. Share Your Own Release

Sometimes you have to get the party started with those social sharing icons on your press release. People tend to share what’s already been shared (some social icons show how many shares a page has gotten). Get things off on the right foot by sharing the release yourself by clicking those icons.

4. Use Amplifying Tools

My favorite tool right now is Social Buzz Club. It’s a network of people who share one another’s content. You can use it for blog posts as well as press releases, and your release will get a much further reach since these people tend to have a lot of social followers.

5. Schedule Several Shares

Don’t be lazy and give up after sharing your press release once. Schedule a share a day for a week or so and vary what you say in each update so that your audience doesn’t feel the monotony. Find different highlights or angles to include, then pay attention to which get the most clicks and shares.

6. Thank Your Sharers

Your press release will have a much longer life with the help of those who share it. Show appreciation and build that relationship by thanking each one for sharing your release. You just might see future support from them if you give them a little attention in return.

With the right game plan, social media could be the biggest source of clicks to both your press release and your website!
