Working for a social media monitoring company, it’s hard not to think about all the different social networking sites out there. As such, it lead me to search Wikipedia for “social networking sites”, and I was astonished by the massive list of major active social networking websites beyond the familiar Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Coincidentally, someone shared this article with me in what looks to be yet another social site soon to be added to this list. It’s called Lift—a collaboration between co-founders and former Twitter executives, Biz Stone, Evan Williams, (along with Jason Goldman) and entrepreneurs Tony Stubblebine and Jason Goldman.
As mentioned in the article, there’s very little detail thus far about Lift, but a recent ReadWriteWeb article does a nice job of summing it up. In a nutshell, Lift is described as new technology that can help unlock human potential, especially through the use of positive reinforcement.
But is the social media networking space getting too crowded? How many possible varieties of online connecting can people participate in?
7 Key Questions about Lift
- What makes it different from all the other social networking sites?
- Which demographic will be among the early adopters?
- Will it have Twitter-like qualities?
- Will the benefits of network effect be critical to its success?
- How will it help brands?
- Will it emerge into internet mainstream or a novelty that eventually fades?
- Can it possibly change the world?
Lift reminds me of a recent status update that caught my eye in my Facebook feed:
“When running as fast as you can, is it REALLY helpful for someone to be yelling, ‘Push it! Faster!’. Idk, maybe it’s my bad attitude where I’d think to myself, ‘Shut up! What the heck do you think I’m doing already?!’”
Would you find value in the online community’s encouragement of your personal (and business) goals? Will Lift “take off” as the name suggests? We’ll have to wait and see as it is still in limited private alpha, but I’m queued up for a chance at early access. Heck, might as well, right? With all the big names behind it, I’m expecting something remarkable!
Check back soon as I hope to answer some of my own questions once I dive into (yet) another social networking site. In the meantime, leave a comment here and tell us your speculations of Lift.
