As the volume of publicly traded companies using PRWeb has increased over the past several years, we have had to put various safeguards in place to minimize the risk associated with fraudulent distribution of materially relevant content.  In the past several months, there have been several notable cases of fraudulent material news releases that have gone over the traditional wire services and we feel as though it is a good time to clarify our stance on the use of ticker symbols in news releases, which is relevant given their importance in determining the placement of news releases on financial sites.

Our policy is as follows: In order for someone to include a ticker symbol on a news release distributed over PRWeb, we must verify that the customer has explicit authorization to do so by the company associated with the ticker symbol.  We maintain a whitelist of customers who have been authorized to use ticker symbols in news releases and will engage directly with first-time distributors who are not on the whitelist to ensure that the proper measures are taken to verify their association before distributing their release.
