Tactical Patience: The Counterintuitive Art of Giving Good Pitches Time

A few weeks ago, I received a note from a reporter responding to a pitch I sent using Help A Reporter Out more than a year ago. This person now had a different story in mind, was in a crunch for time, and wanted to know if I could help. Events like this have happened many times in my career. I find a story angle that’s relevant and timely, draft a pitch with a personal note to a reporter and nothing happens – in the short term, that is.

The Cannes Lion Roars of Integrated Marketing

Advertising agencies swept the Cannes Awards this week. AdAge, a staple publication for advertisers, pointed out that of the 20 Gold Lion awards given out, only one went to a PR firm. Ad agencies like Leo Burnett and McCann Erickson won big, while JWT, a legend in the ad space, snatched the Grand Prix. Is this bad news for PR? After all, just three years ago, the buzz was about how PR pros stunned the advertising industry with the “Best Job in the World” campaign.
