Cision Expands Its ‘Green’ Media Database Footprint

Leading Media Research and Analysis Company Says ‘Green’ Editorial Universe Has Tripled in 18 Months

CHICAGO, IL, April 7, 2008 — Cision, the leading provider of media research, distribution, monitoring and analysis services, said it has responded to the increased worldwide interest in the ‘green’ movement by tripling the size of its media database focused on green topics and issues.

Thousands of journalists, editors and reporters covering the green beat are now listed in the CisionPoint database, a threefold increase in the past 18 months. Reflecting the broad grass-roots interest in topics ranging from global warming to carbon-neutral strategies to clean technology, Cision has added numerous blogs, websites, publications and radio and TV outlets that have assigned editorial staff to focus specifically on green topics.

“The rapid acceleration of the green movement has resulted in an expansion of print publications, online outlets and blogs covering environmental issues,” said Ruth McFarland, Senior Vice President and Publisher for Cision North America. “What used to be a specialty environmental beat has exploded into a consumer story, a lifestyle story, a business story, a technology and innovation story, a story of economic growth and limits, and a global political story that every media institution must address in some way. So not only are we seeing new outlets, but existing publications and online media are by necessity dramatically expanding their green coverage.”

Cision maintains the world’s most comprehensive media database, including traditional print and broadcast mainstream media, as well as blogs, social media, video sharing sites and other new media networks. The CisionPoint database is updated over 10,000 times a day and provides detailed information on what topics individual journalists cover, as well as general facts and subscriber demographics of media outlets. It maintains current editorial calendars of scheduled feature stories and lists opportunities for anyone interested in getting their story to receptive members of the media.

Cision research analysts found that the top green topics currently being covered include green living, green technology, green building, eco tourism, and sustainable development.

Some of the top green blogs in the CisionPoint database include Green Wombat, The Lean Green Family, Gristmill, Ecorazzi, InformationWeek’s Green Computing, Dot Earth (from the New York Times), Green Tech Pastures (ZDNet) and Cleantech (CNet). The most popular green websites include, Greenbizjournal (American City Business Journals), GreenTech Media , GreenWire and the Daily Green.

“PR professionals increasingly need to track ‘green’ opportunities for all types of accounts,” said McFarland. “For a computer client, they may be pitching how their systems reduce energy use and costs. Or for one of the big automobile companies, they may pitch stories about hybrids, electric vehicles or other alternatives. CisionPoint provides a wide array of outlets and thousands of editorial calendar opportunities to tell these stories.”
