The Los Angeles Times has announced an impending global expansion effort. In the wake of parent company Tribune Publishing’s rejection of a hostile takeover bid by rival newspaper publisher Gannett, the Times revealed plans for news bureaus to be established in seven international locations, including Hong Kong, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Mumbai, Lagos, Moscow and Mexico City. The aim is to expand the reach of the LA Times brand, making it a stronger player in international coverage. The bureaus are expected to open in late 2016.
