The Washington Post has announced a new incoming editor and a new beat for a reporter. Joining the paper May 16 is Laura Helmuth, who will be taking over WaPo’s health, science and environment coverage for the National desk. She comes to the paper from National Geographic, where she has been serving as director of digital news. Prior to this, Helmuth was science and health editor for Slate, and has also worked for Smithsonian Magazine and Science magazine.
Switching beats at WaPo is Steven Mufson, who will be covering energy and infrastructure for the Financial desk. He has spent the last two years as the White House correspondent for Financial, and previously covered energy for several years. For national business and economic news, follow WaPo’s financial team on Twitter, and also follow the health, science and environment team on Twitter for updates in these fields.
Thrilled to be joining @washingtonpost as editor of the health/science/environment desk. For a good time, follow @PostHealthSci.
