James Temple has joined The Verge to serve as senior video director. He comes to The Verge from sister site Re/code, where he served as deputy managing editor of multimedia since December 2014 following a stint as senior editor for science, health and Big Ideas. A longtime journalist in San Francisco, Temple spent several years with the San Francisco Chronicle covering technology as a reporter and columnist, and has also worked for the Contra Costa Times and San Francisco Business Times.
