The Los Angeles Times‘ longtime columnist Bill Dwyre has accepted a buyout and will retire in a month. Dwyre has been a columnist at the times since 2006, and was the sports editor at the paper for 25 years prior. Dwyre had also prevously been the sports editor at The Milwaukee Journal, as well as the sports copy editor at The Des Moines Register. Over the course of his nearly 50 year career, he won the Red Smith Award from the Associated Press Sports Editors in 1996, as well as being named National Editor of the Year by the National Press Club in 1985.
