The New York Times has hired TIME scribe James Poniewozik as chief TV critic, replacing the Times’ longtime critic Alessandra Stanley who changed coverage recently. Poniewozik will start in his new role on Sept. 8. At TIME, he had previously served as TV critic and senior writer since 1999, also writing a pop culture column/blog, Tuned In. He also served as media columnist for Salon for two years prior to joining TIME. Before that, he was an assistant editor for MLA (Modern Language Association of America) since 1993. In seriousness, excited to be joining the NY Times in September as their TV critic. And will miss everyone at Time, which has been my home.
