The Los Angeles Times has hired Dexter Thomas as a reporter covering Black Twitter. The paper has committed resources to creating and pulling stories from minority communities online including Twitter, Tumblr and LINE in Japan. Thomas is a Ph.D. candidate in East Asian studies at Cornell University. He previously taught media studies and Japanese. He also worked in digital media at University of California, Riverside as a student director of programming for KUCR-FM.
