Q: How do you use social media? Which platforms to you like best?

I’m the FB administrator for the HDR, so I check and update our [Facebook] page multiple times daily. I post questions, respond to questions and comments. I’m also on the lookout for story ideas. Tweetdeck is always on, as I monitor breaking news tweets, and tweets with keywords ‘Hickory’ and ‘Catawba.’ Staff is also encouraged to grab story ideas, ask questions, seek sources for stories and respond to comments. And comments on our stories are especially insightful and helpful, giving us a sense of what people are thinking and reacting to.

I like Twitter because its ‘live news.’ It helps especially in the case of accidents, storms, breaking news and real-time feedback.
