Barbara Fister compiles and edits research for Medstar, which specializes in medical news and health information. Her reports often feature leading medical experts who discuss research, diagnoses, treatments and clinical trials. Fister prefers press releases that tell a personal story, such as how a treatment has affected a particular patient or how a clinical trial may affect future patients. “All of our stories are patient-oriented,” she says. “Although we interview both a doctor and a patient, we are telling the patient’s story.”
