Michelle Cole covers Oregon state government, particularly the Department of Human Services, in addition to state politics and the legislature. Her subjects include child welfare and some mental health issues. Cole was an environment reporter for many years and, while she still covers environmental issues in the arena of the legislation or politics, she is NOT interested in general environment stories.
She does NOT want to receive pitches via fax or phone. “I really just like a clean e-mail that I don’t have to click twice to open up,” Cole says. “If there’s a picture available, just tell me where to go get it, if I ask for it.” A follow-up call is acceptable, but do not try to call her after 3 p.m. unless it’s urgent.
