The New York Times has announced some recent changes in their newsroom. First, Susan Chira, who spent eight years as a foreign editor and five years as the leader of the daily news, has decided to return to writing. She leaves her masthead role as deputy executive editor to cover gender issues for both the news and opinion sections. Next, Joe Kahn has been promoted to managing editor, filling a role that has been vacant for the past two years. Kahn has been been with the NYT since 1998, most recently in the position of international news editor. Finally, Michael E. Slackman moves into this vacancy and is taking over as international news editor. Slackman has been the managing editor for international news with the NYT since 2014.
