McClatchy Newspapers recently announced Cheryl Dell, publisher of The Sacramento Bee in California since 2008, will step down from her post. Her replacement will be Gary Wortel, who also will serve as publisher for the company’s West region, which includes all of its daily newspapers in California, Washington and Idaho. McClatchy also named three others to regional publisher posts, including:
- Tony Berg, who will remain in his role as president and publisher of The Kansas City Star, will also serve as Midwest publisher, overseeing papers in Texas, Kansas and Illinois.
- Sara Glines will remain president and publisher of The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, and take over as regional publisher for the Carolinas.
- Alexandra Villoch will remain president and publisher of The Miami Herald and will take on responsibilities as the regional publisher for the East, overseeing newspapers in Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
