The Albuquerque Journal recently announced a shakeup of many top roles in its newsroom, including: 

  • Karen Moses has been named editor after having been the managing editor since 2001. Moses joined the publication in 1981 and has served as assistant managing editor and city editor. 
  • Dan Herrera moves to the managing editor role, replacing Moses. Herrera has been the editorial page editor since 2009. He joined the Albuquerque Journal in 1995. 
  • D’Val Westphal replaces Herrera as editorial page editor. He has been the assistant editorial page editor since 2007 after joining the staff in 1989 as a copy editor. 
  • Kent Walz is retiring from the position of editor in chief of the newspaper. He will retain a role as senior editor, working with the editorial board, community outreach and investigative projects. Walz has been editor of the newspaper for 22 years.
