Michael Smith, executive editor of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal in South Carolina, will now also oversee sister papers as regional editor for Gatehouse Western Carolina Media Group. He will remain in his current role but will now manage three North Carolina newspapers: the Gaston Gazette, the Hendersonville Times-News and the Shelby Star.
