Herald & Review has announced the departure of editor and general manager Gary Sawyer. The veteran editor is headed to Iowa State University to serve as lecturer in the journalism and mass communication department. Sawyer has served as editor for the past 15 years, and added general manager to his title in 2014. Taking up the general manager role is advertising director Joel Fletcher, who joined the staff in 2006. Scott Perry, who was named managing editor in July, will serve as interim editor until Sawyer’s editorial-side replacement is found.
