The Charlotte Observer has named Sherry Chisenhall its next managing editor. She replaces Cheryl Carpenter, who left the Observer for McClatchy’s Washington bureau late last year. The move is a homecoming for Chisenhall, who was previously with the Observer from 1986 to 2000 as an assigning editor, reporter and copy editor. She will start her new role June 27, and is currently wrapping up a near-twelve-year tenure as editor and senior vice president of news at The Wichita Eagle. She joined the sister McClatchy daily in 2000 as managing editor, and was elevated to editor in 2004. Thank you, @jordanwatkins_ — I’m planning to be able to say “I knew you when…” someday, you know.
