Orage Quarles III will step down as president and publisher of The News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, effective June 3. Quarles joined the paper in 2000, and two years later, he was named Publisher of the Year by Editor & Publisher. He has been with parent company McClatchy since 1993, working as a publisher in South Carolina and later at The Modesto Bee in California. His replacement has not been named.
