The Wall Street Journal has promoted Ashby Jones to bureau chief overseeing law; he was previously the deputy chief for law since 2013. Jones joined the publication in 2005 as a staff editor, and has served as a writer for the law blog and as a reporter during his time there. The WSJ has also hired Alyssa Abkowitz as a reporter to cover the tech industry in China out of the the paper’s Beijing bureau. Abkowitz had been a freelance writer in Beijing since 2013, and previously worked for WSJ as luxury real estate reporter for the year prior to going freelance.
