Amid announcements of a newsroom overhaul and strategy review at The New York Times, two veteran staffers will be moving into new roles. Marc Lacey will now serve as deputy editor on the National desk, most recently the associate managing editor for weekends. He previously held a deputy editor role on the Foreign desk, following correspondent posts in Mexico, Kenya and Washington.
Returning stateside is Thomas Fuller, who will take up the role of San Francisco bureau chief, vacant since Norimitsu Onishi moved to the Johannesburg bureau in 2014 to serve as chief there. Fuller has long been the NYT’s Southeast Asia correspondent in Bangkok, and has been covering Asia for the paper since 1997.
