Veteran Los Angeles Times writer and editor Ann M. Simmons is moving into a new beat covering global development. She will delve into global sustainability issues on the beat, including poverty, gender, climate, water and other issues crucial to the planet’s survival. Simmons will curate an online hub for this coverage on the LA Times website in addition to writing stories. She most recently worked with the paper’s video team, following posts on the metro and national desks. Simmons first joined the Times in 1997 as the Nairobi bureau chief, followed by a tenure as Johannesburg bureau chief.
