The newsroom at The Oregonian has seen a shakeup as several staffers recently accepted buyouts. Among them are associate editorial page editor Mark Hester and investigative and enterprise editor Bruce Hammond. Hester originally joined the paper as business editor in 1997, and Hammond joined in 1987. Work-life reporter George Rede, investigative reporter Bryan Denson and senior politics reporter Jeff Mapes have also taken buyouts. Rede had been with the paper for over 30 years, and was named work-life reporter in November 2014, and Denson had been with the paper since 1995. Mapes, who had covered Oregon politics for the paper since 1984, is headed to Oregon Public Broadcasting, where he will serve as a senior political reporter. Steve Duin, who was a metro columnist, and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning senior reporter Richard Read have also exited. For more Oregon news, follow along on Twitter.
Congrats to @Bryan_Denson as he ends 20-year run at @Oregonian. Also, buy his book "The Spy's Son" – great read. Excited for the movie!
