Willard Scott, the veteran meteorologist for the Today show, is retiring from the program after 35 years. Known for his centenarian birthday salutes and Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade hosting, he joined the national show from NBC Washington, D.C. affiliate WRC-TV, where he has been since 1968. He was part of The Joy Boys, a broadcast team formed in 1950 that aired on WOL Radio, WRC-AM and WWDC. He began his career with NBC as a page at the Washington station in 1950 and was also a weekend disk jockey for Washington radio station, WINX. He also served as the very first Ronald McDonald. The recipient of numerous awards during his broadcast career, Scott is the author of six books: The Joy of Living, Down Home Stories, Willard Scott’s All-American Cookbook, America Is My Neighborhood, Murder Under Blue Skies, and Murder in the Mist.
