After 35 years, veteran columnist Al Kamen has announced that he is set to retire from The Washington Post. Kamen joined the paper in 1980 and covered the Supreme Court and the State Department before starting the In the Loop column in 1993. His last column will appear on Oct. 9.

In other WaPo news, Bethonie Butler has been appointed features TV reporter and begins her new role Oct. 12. She previously served as an engagement producer for the digital audience team. Additionally, Scott Clement was promoted to polling manager. He most recently served as a polling analyst since joining the paper in May 2011. Lastly, Christine Emba was named editor of  WaPo’s In Theory. The blog, which launched in September, is a space for policy, academic and socio-cultural debates.
