Michelle Morgante has been named managing editor for the Merced Sun-Star, and will join the publication on Sept. 8. Currently, she is a desk editor overseeing coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean for the Associated Press in Mexico City. She has been with the AP since 1992, working as a Latin America desk editor in Mexico City since May 2014. Morgante also previously served as bureau chief for Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota in April 2012. Prior to that, she was the assistant bureau chief for the Miami bureau. Before being named to assistant bureau chief in July 2005, she served as a correspondent in San Diego for five years. She initially joined the AP in 1991 as in intern in the Detroit bureau, before moving to the Denver bureau in 1992. She left the AP in 1993 to teach, and returned in 1995 in the Portland bureau.
