Doug Smith has been named senior metro reporter for the Los Angeles Times to focus on long-form news features covering people, places and controversies in Los Angeles. Smith, who has been with the LA Times for almost 45 years, was previously the data editor. Ben Welsh will replace Smith and most recently served as data producer at the paper. He will continue to produce data-driven content via investigative stories and digital productions.
