Bill Carter has joined CNN as a contributor covering media topics. He wrote for The New York Times from 1989 until December 2014 as a national media reporter. He has also contributed to The New York Times Magazine. Carter began his career as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun, where he worked as a television critic from 1975 to 1989 and as assistant foreign editor from 1973 to 1975. He is the author of two books on entertainment media; Monday Night Mayhem and The Late Shift: Letterman, Leno, & the Network Battle for the Night.
