Mary Byrne has left USA Today to join ESPN Online as senior deputy editor, overseeing NFL, NHL and NASCAR coverage for both print and digital. Byrne was named managing editor for sports at USA Today in April 2012, also serving as Olympics editor from 2004 to 2006.  Stepping in as her replacement at USA Today is David Meeks, who has served as assistant managing editor for sports enterprise and investigations since December 2013, previously an assistant sports editor.
