Cision Blog regrets to inform its readers that John Fairchild, longtime editor in chief at Women’s Wear Daily and founding editor of W magazine, has passed away. He was 87. Fairchild first started at WWD in 1960 and later headed Fairchild Publications, his family’s media company, for over 30 years. Under his watch, WWD  blossomed from a small trade magazine into a hugely influential fashion mainstay, often referred to as the “bible of fashion.” He most recently served as a contributing editor at WWD following the publication’s sale to Penske Media Corp in 2014, which followed nearly 15 years of Conde Nast ownership.
