Cision Blog regrets to inform its readers that renowned journalist David Carr died suddenly on Thursday. Carr is perhaps best known for his role as media critic and columnist at The New York Times, though he previously wrote about cultural topics as founder of the paper’s Carpetbagger feature. He joined The Times in 2002 as a business reporter covering magazine publishing, and prior to that, served stints as editor of both Washington City Paper and the alternative Minnesota weekly Twin Cities Reader. In addition to his work in newspapers, Carr published a 2008 memoir, The Night of the Gun, which chronicled his descent into drug addiction and the subsequent recovery that facilitated his comeback to industry prominence at The New York Times.
