Bloomberg News has named John Micklethwait editor in chief, effective in January 2015. He will fill the role after Matthew Winkler steps down as editor in chief emeritus. Micklethwait is currently the editor in chief of The Economist, where he set up The Economist’s Los Angeles office, ran the New York bureau and edited the business section and United States sections. He first joined the magazine in 1987 as a finance correspondent.
Winkler has been editor in chief of Bloomberg News since 1990. He was previously a reporter for The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones news services. He served as a financial correspondent for The Wall Street Journal Europe and helped launch the Dow Jones Capital Markets Report in 1980. He has also worked for the Bond Buyer.
