ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton has announced her retirement and will exit the company on Sept. 10. She has been a Washington correspondent since 2000. Compton joined ABC News Radio in 1973, covering the U.S. government in New York. A year later, she became the first woman assigned to the White House by a network television news organization.
