Layoffs hit the New York Daily News, claiming at least 17 jobs in the newsroom including several veteran staffers. Award-winning photographer and travel writer David Handschuh and Pulitzer-winning healthcare reporter Heidi Evans were both pink-slipped, in addition to the following names: assistant business editor Elizabeth Lazarowitz; business reporter Phyllis Furman; features reporter Sheila McClear; and metro reporter Michael Feeney.
