Groundbreaking anchor Jean Enersen has stepped down from the anchor desk after 42 years. She will however remain on staff for KING-TV’s HealthLink Report segments. Enersen joined Seattle’s KING-TV in 1968, and in 1972 made history when she was named the first local female anchor in the U.S. Other notable firsts that she achieved include first local American TV host to anchor a TV news program in the Soviet Union, first American to host “Asia Now,” and first chair of the Northwest AIDS Walk.
Enersen has had a decorated career and earned numerous awards including a Regional Emmy; the Northwest AIDS Foundation Community Leadership Award, the Matrix Table for Women of Achievement; an Excellence In Media Award; and two Clarion Awards. She has been presented honorary doctorates from Whitman College and Seattle University, and was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle, Seattle Chapter.
