Today is National Running Day, so if the weather permits, get outside and stretch those legs! (Actually, why are you sitting at your computer reading this, anyway?) Falling on the first Wednesday of June, NRD was first recognized in 2009. It is a cooperative effort sponsored by several nonprofit organizations across the country, including New York Road Runners, the Atlanta Track Club and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, to name a few. National Running Day is a celebration of the sport, encouraging professional or casual runners to set new goals, sign up for races or even convert non-running friends and family. Social networking sites such as Meetup help enable these sorts of cooperative efforts. Whether your passion is running, sailing, gaming, dating or even barcrawling, Meetup helps you “find your people.” Follow Meetup on Twitter to get a feel for the site’s myriad organized events.
