ABC News announced today that Diane Sawyer will step down as anchor of World News with Diane Sawyer with no specified date for her final broadcast. Going forward, correspondent David Muir will leave his role as anchor of World News with David Muir, the weekend edition of the program, to step in as anchor and managing editor for the newscast starting September 2. No replacement has been named for the weekend edition. Also announced, George Stephanopoulos has been promoted to chief anchor for ABC News.
