Jill Abramson, executive editor of The New York Times, will be stepping down from her role as announced by Arthur Sulzberger, Jr., the paper’s publisher and chairman of The New York Times Company. Abramson was appointed to the top editorial post at the Times in 2011 and is the first woman to serve in this role. She was previously an investigative correspondent and Washington editor. Managing editor of news Dean Baquet will replace Abramson. Baquet previously served as assistant managing editor and Washington bureau chief for The New York Times, and has also served as editor of the Los Angeles Times. He will be the first African-American to serve as executive editor for the paper. Baquet’s replacement as managing editor has not yet been announced.
