For those of us whose brackets were busted before the sun set on the first weekend of tournament play, we may be left asking ourselves how on earth could the guy from accounting be in the running to win the entire office bracket when only weeks ago you overheard him asking what a Jayhawk was and “who was this Dick Vitale character anyway?”

The answer is likely equal parts beginner’s luck and objective calculation. When choosing teams during March madness, many burgeoning bracketologists run the risk of getting caught up in the emotion of choosing their Alma matter to go deep even though they have very little chance of playing to their perceived potential. Similarly, we view the Daytons of the world as less capable simply because of their lack of pedigree.

For those of you whose hoop dreams are still alive, however, let’s once again turn to the interwebs and social spheres for some guidance on the final push of March Madness, the Final Four.

It appears that, despite being seeded 8th in their region, The University of Kentucky continues to be a major favorite for those inclined to tweet, Facebook, and blog about their brackets. Whether or not this means that UK alums are more socially connected is perhaps the next question in our quest to use social media in picking the winner of the NCAA tournament.

Good luck to everyone and keep us posted on your progress via social media. We’re listening!
