How are social media audiences feeling about the Super Bowl this Sunday? Vocus performed a sentiment analysis with its Vocus PR Suite this week and found a very balanced game, fitting a battle of a #1 offense (Denver Broncos) versus a #1 defense (Seattle Seahawks).
Of the two teams, there is more chatter for Seattle (9,930 social mentions) than Denver (8,279 updates). However, the sentiment shows that 37.43 percent feel positive about the Broncos while only 6.61 percent of social media updates were negative.

The Broncos had fewer mentions, but they received positive ones more often.
A slightly less bullish crowd exists for the Seattle Seahawks with 32.97 percent positive mentions and 6.17 percent were negative.

The Seahawks have the loudest stadium in the NFL. Maybe that explains the social volume.
Perhaps most notable about our analysis was the overwhelmingly neutral conversation. While engaged, fans are not necessarily rooting for one team over the other. This flies in the face of football analysts who said the Seahawks would be vilified thanks to its cornerback Richard Sherman’s post NFC championship comments.
Vocus also analyzed the sentiment battle between the perceived hero Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and anti-hero Sherman. This discussion was fueled by them trash-talking each other in the media this week.
Peyton Manning’s generally sterling reputation is suffering a little bit (4,460 mentions) with 44.53 percent positive and 11.05 percent negative. This may have as much to do with the QB’s legacy conversation as it does to the Sherman “duck” debate.
It’s not so bad for Sherman, though. The Seahawks CB gets more mentions in our analysis (4,589) with a 27.5 percent positive fan base, and 16.63 percent negative. Both players have strong neutral conversations.
