Creative juices running low recently? Don’t worry. You’re not alone and it doesn’t make you any less of a social media manager. We all have some down time and need new sources for content. Curating content is a vital role and something that most people don’t understand about being a social media manager. It’s usually the hardest thing to do. How do you keep it fresh, relevant and engaging?
What are your friends sharing? Believe it or not, your friends might have the juicy piece of content you’re searching for especially if they’re social media junkies like my friends but even if they’re not, they might share something that sparks something in you. Take a break and scan your Facebook news feed, Twitter timeline, etc and see what’s going on. Is there a blog post that’s relevant to your audience? A holiday you forgot about? Hello, Thanksgiving next week!
What’s Hot on Google+: This is one of my favorite places to hang out. There’s always something going on here and one day, I aspire to have something hit the “What’s Hot,” but until then this girl can dream. What’s Hot highlights the best of Google+ and it’s a fun way to waste time err find content for your social networks and if you’ve found a gem, you can quickly share it on your G+ page as well. How cool is that?
Create a Twitter list: Are you using those Twitter lists? Now that you can have unlimited lists with unlimited accounts attached to them, the possibilities for sourcing content on Twitter are endless. My Twitter lists are set up to scan for breaking news alerts and the latest in social media news but you should be creating lists for your brand. These lists should monitor keywords within your brand, sentiment and you should also have a list monitoring your competitors privately. Find opportunities to retweet something positive or engage in something relating to your brand.
Hang out on Pinterest: Not your thing? It doesn’t have to be. Nobody said you had to pin anything. Pinterest is a great place to find content though. Social networks love photos and Pinterest is fun place to find awesome photos to share and get ideas for content.
Memes and Funny Photos: Don’t lie. You know you like those cat photos and memes shared by George Takai but we can’t all be Takai so why not take a cue from him, break up the monotony of our usual posts and share a photo that has nothing to do with anything? Trust me, it’ll work. Your audience will relate in some way or another. Here are some great sources:
- I Can Has Cheezburger – LOLCats, making the world funny for over a decade.
- Know Your Meme – Not sure what the latest memes are? Check here first.
- Some E Cards – Fun and sarcastic e-cards based on current events.
