Last Friday, San Francisco’s KTVU-TV falsely reported the names of four pilots in the July 6 Asiana plane crash at San Francisco International Airport. Although the station confirmed the names with a summer intern at the National Transportation Safety Board, the news of this highly erroneous reporting has spread with viewers wondering how this could happen. Was it a joke gone too far? How is it possible the news station didn’t catch what were obviously phony names to most?
