There’s been a lot of discussion about journalists getting facts wrong lately because of the need to break news first. But it isn’t just the speed of the news cycle that leads well-meaning reporters astray. Satirical newspapers and spoof reports are sometimes picked up as fact by legitimate news organizations, which is what happened recently when satire-based website, The Daily Currant, reported that conservative commentator Ann Coulter had made offensive remarks in relation to the movie “Star Trek: Into the Darkness.” Our panel discusses whose at fault, why it happens and how keeping a sense of humor may be the best way to deal with these types of false reports.
