Q: How do you use social media? Which platforms do you like best? Why?
“The social media platforms I use most are Twitter and Facebook. I’m a longtime Facebook fan, and since I joined Twitter about three years ago, have sent all my tweets through to Facebook. Maybe this is a social media no-no to some, but it works for me time-wise.
I consider both forms of networking both professionally and personally, but I find I tend to use them differently though. Although I have the same number of ‘friends’ and ‘followers,’ I tend to have more conversations on Facebook. From a professional standpoint, I get story ideas from Twitter – particularly when I was doing a daily and weekly blog for Animal Planet. I use it to promote my own articles and blog posts, and I likewise post stories I come across of interest to myself and hopefully my followers. I’m on LinkedIn, Google+, Digg, and StumbleUpon, but don’t use them much other than posting my latest stories. I just joined Pinterest and haven’t really explored it much yet, but did create a sort of Vision Board that helps me visualize what I want in life and I plan to do a career vision board as well.”
